William F. Cummings, a resident of New Port Richey, Florida for 35 years formerly of Reading, MA died December 10, 2018 at the Solaris Nursing Home in Hudson, Florida.  He was 87 years of age.  William was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on December 9, 1931 the son of the late Frederick J. and Ellen E. (Murphy) Cummings.

William was a 23 year veteran of the Massachusetts State Police retiring with the rank of Captain.  He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Marine Corps being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.  In Florida William was an active member of the Marine Corps League and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

William was the beloved husband of Ann M. (Keeler) Cummings.  Devoted father of Christopher F. Cummings and his wife Ann of Hull, Matthew L. Cummings of Wakefield, Peter C. Cummings and his wife Linda of Andover and Ellen Burneika and her husband Dan of Myrtle Beach, SC.  Loving grandfather of 11 and great grandfather of 5.

His funeral will be held from the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Monday December 17 at 9:30AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10:30AM.  Burial with military honors to follow at Charles Lawn Cemetery, Reading.  Funeral home visiting hours will be held on Sunday December 16 from 4:00-8:00PM.
