Obituary

Virginia A. (Clark) Potter, a member of the congregation of the First Congregational Church of Reading for the past two decades, passed away at her home on November 8, 2025. She was 75 years of age.

Virginia, known as Ginny, was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on May 17, 1950, the daughter of the late Richard I. and Elizabeth G. (Moulton) Clark. Ginny grew up in Attleboro and graduated from Attleboro High School in 1968. She then attended Middlebury College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in music in 1972. She moved to Boston to attend Boston University and began dancing at the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society, where she met her former husband, James Potter. They moved to Arlington in 1975 and were married in 1976. They then relocated to Littleton, where her three children were born and raised. In 1999, she started working as a Program Coordinator at the Boston University School of Medicine and continued working there for 20 years. She lived in Somerville, Lynn, and Roslindale, before relocating to Reading to be near her grandchildren and church.

Music was a mainstay in Ginny's life; she sang in many community and church choirs over the years. She also played several instruments, including her guitar for sing-alongs around the campfire. She played handbells, first in the Congregational Church of Littleton, then later with the Jubilate Bells of the First Congregational Church of Reading. Even after a stroke in 2019, she worked hard to play handbells again and to sing in the church choir.

Ginny loved attending PAX gaming conventions, where she felt a strong sense of belonging and community. She attended several PAX conventions before becoming a PAX Enforcer, the name PAX uses for the people who help run things around the convention. She traveled to Seattle, San Antonio, and Philadelphia for different PAX conventions.

If Ginny could be anywhere in the world, it would be on Cape Cod. Every summer, she stayed in or near Harwich Port, which she had been visiting since her childhood. She shared her love of this area by bringing her children and then grandchildren to Harwich Port to spend time at the beach, local shops, and of course to get ice cream.

Ginny was the devoted mother of Daniel M. Potter of Arlington, Rachel H. Ireland and her husband Thomas of Reading, and Timothy C. Potter of Boxborough; loving grandmother of Nolan and Connor Ireland, and the cherished sister of the late Ruth Moulton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Reading on February 15, 2026, at 2 pm. A private burial will be held in the North Purchase Cemetery in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ginny's memory to the ACLU.
