Richard J.
Waldron
Jun 13, 1948 — Jun 2, 2026
Lexington
Richard "Rick" John Waldron of Lexington Ma, formerly of Providence R.I. passed away suddenly on June 2nd at a nearby rehab facility after a short stay in the hospital. Born on June 13th 1948; Rick was 77 years old.
So loved and will be missed by his partner of fifty-two years Janet Moran of Lexington. Jan was "Piggy" to Rick. That's what he called her. To him, her personality had aspects of "Miss Piggy" and would sing every place she could.
Rick was the son of the late John Waldron and Mother Assunta "Sue"(Castrataro) Waldron.
He was the brother of Lucinda "Cindy" Bennett; the late Veronica Howard (wife of Larry Howard); Maureen Waldron, John Waldron, Gerard "Jerry" Waldron, Michelle Waldron, Terry Waldron, and Paul "PJ" Waldron.
Rick was loving uncle of nephews Ian, Jason and Patrick; and nieces Amy, Laurie and Tasha. He also cherished his time with Janet's family and especially the grandchildren.
Rick was a kind, loving and loyal person with a quick sense of humor. He had keen interests in many subjects including history, meteorology and birds; enjoying in particular the birds in the backyard which he loved tending to with his multiple bird feeders on the back deck.
Rick was also a voracious reader, enjoying science fiction, and history in particular. He also spent much time listening to his favorite classical music station; and had attended BSO and Family Christmas Pops performances at Symphony Hall for the past twenty-five years.
Rick was well known as an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots; attending many games in his younger years.
During those younger years Rick very much enjoyed skiing and spending time with his fellow Killington Vt. Ski-House friends, frequently treating them to his famous Italian Feast that he liked to cook up.
Rick was very proud of his service in the US Navy where he honorably served from 1968 to 1972. During that time Rick served as a radio operator on reconnaissance missions over enemy territory U.S. Navy P-6, Blue Sharks.
On one of those missions Rick's aircraft sustained damage from enemy fire while off the coast of North Vietnam. Despite the damage, the lives of Rick and his crew mates were spared, thus instilling in him a sense of gratitude, but also deep introspection knowing that while he and his crew survived, others crews on other missions did not.
After he returned home from the Navy he assisted his mother, whom he loved dearly, to manage her household of Rick's eight younger siblings. Rick organized work schedules, assigned tasks, and prepared meals while his mother worked nights.
Rick attended Rhode Island Junior College where he earned an Associates Degree. In 1975 he came to Boston to work at Sylvania, and it was then when he met Jan.
In 1981 Rick began working for ASEC (Aviation Systems Engineering Company) at Hanscom Air Force Base as a Support Technician for the Department of the Air Force, and from 1985 through to his retirement in 2017 he worked for a number of other contractors in the same capacity.
Rick, who held a top security clearance, worked on government contracts for the Department of the Air Force Protection Division. This work required Rick to frequently travel to US Air Force Bases all around the Country and in Europe. Jan was fortunate to join him at some of these locations and after his retirement they travelled extensively, including visits to places in Europe, and here in the US to most of the National Parks, Alaska and Hawaii.
