Richard Ralph MacDonald, 68, a Reading resident of over thirty-six years, passed away on Monday May 23rd. He was the adored husband of the late Mary Ann C. MacDonald (Stec).

Raised in Somerville, he was the son of the late Bennett and Irene (Miller) MacDonald. Richard married Mary Ann, the love of his life, on August 23, 1986. They shared 22 wonderful years with one another before her passing. They joined the Reading community shortly thereafter and remained there for the duration of their lives. Reading became home, where they raised their daughter, Kathleen, and formed many lifelong friendships over the years.

Richie will be fondly remembered by all who knew him as one of the friendliest guys in town. He was always prepared to greet you with perhaps a very long story, or an ice-cold beer. He will be remembered as the most loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather anyone could imagine.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Smith, and her husband Michael, of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by his only grandchild, Mary Kathleen Smith. Richard is also survived by his brother-in-law, Michael J Stec and his wife, Jill, of Dracut, MA. Michael and Jill had three children Richard was very close to as well, Jacob, Allison, and Timothy. Richard is also survived by his sister-in-law, Leona Stec, and her partner, Donna Marcinek.

A celebration of life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary Ann's memory to the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, 165 Cambridge St., Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114.
