Erwin
Jun 7, 1914 — Mar 23, 2019
Reading
Marjorie Dorothy (Morse) Erwin passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Daniels House Nursing Home where she had been a resident for almost 5 years. She was 104 years of age.
She was born on June 7, 1914 in Hudson, MA where she lived for 4 years, but she was a resident of Woburn for most of her life. Her parents were Kathryn (O'Donnell) Morse and John Francis Morse.
Her father died of the flu when she was 4 years old, so she and her younger brother, John Francis and mother Kate moved back to Woburn to live with family. She attended St. Charles School and later the Wyman School and Woburn High School.
After graduating from Woburn High School she went to work at the Woburn National Bank where she met her husband, George E. Erwin. Together they had three children. George died in 1982. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Carol D'Agostino and her husband James of Reading and her son David Erwin and his wife, Linda, also of Reading. Her son, Robert, a recent resident of New Horizons in Woburn, passed away on March 25, 2019 two days after his mother. She is the cherished grandmother of Peter, John, Mark, Paul, Steven and Andrew and great grandmother of Katie, Lucas, Patrick, Seamus, Mia, Cassandra, Vincent and Rafe.
Marjorie was a very involved grandmother, helping to care for her grandsons while they were young and attended many school, sporting and church events in Reading. While still living in Woburn, she drove to Reading many days where she was busy as a volunteer. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 16 years. For a few years she taught CCD at St. Agnes where she attended Mass and volunteered in the office. She joined other parishioners in raising money for the Walk for Hunger and walking the 20 miles. She did the walk for 10 or 11 years into her 80s. As a result, she had many Reading friends who were frequent visitors during her stay at Daniels House.
Her funeral will be held from the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10:00am. (along with her son Robert Erwin) Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. Funeral home visiting hours will be held Friday March 29 from 4:00-7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Marjorie's name to Project Bread/Walk for Hunger 145 Border St. East Boston, MA 02128-1903.
