Maria E. (Alvarado) Vargas, a resident of Somerville, Massachusetts for 55 years passed away on August 4, 2025 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.  She was 82 years of age.

Maria was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on May 18, 1943, the daughter of Flavio N. and Maria E. (Farino) Alvarado. She came to the United States in 1970. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and made annual trips to Ecuador to spend holidays with her sisters and their families. She also loved preparing her favorite Ecuadorian dishes.

Maria was the beloved wife of the late Luis A. Vargas and the devoted mother of Gyna Williamson and Karym DerBoghosian, both of Reading. She was the loving grandmother of Nicholas Fettig, Alexander DerBoghosian, Alexa DerBoghosian and Nia Williamson, and recently became a great grandmother to Julian Thomas Fettig. She was the cherished sister of Gladys Freire Alvarado, Miriam Del Rosario, Magda Cueva, and Angela Alvarado.

A visitation will be held for Maria at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn Street (corner of Woburn Street) in Reading on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 10:00-11:30am followed by a service at the funeral home at 11:30am. Burial will be private.
