North Reading

Obituary

John F. Buckley of North Reading, formerly of Reading and Gloucester, passed away at
his home surrounded by his loving family on June 25, 2025.  He was 79 years of age.
John was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on February 25, 1946, the son of the late
John F. and Eileen (Goulding) Buckley.

John grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School in 1963.  After
graduating, John enlisted in the Army National Guard, trained at Fort Dix during the
Vietnam Era and remained on active duty until 1970.

John was the owner and proprietor of Citco Gas Station in Winter Hill, Somerville for 10
years. He worked the remainder of his career at IBM for over 35 years.

John raised his family with his wife Patricia in Reading and later moved to Gloucester
where they resided for 18 years. John enjoyed boating and could often be seen on the
waters of Cape Ann with his grandchildren in the summers. After he retired, John and
Patricia spent winters in Punta Gorda Florida where they enjoyed golfing and getting
together with family and friends.

John also piloted a single-engine Cessna as a hobby in his younger years and often
flew across New England. He was an avid home improvement enthusiast and could
always be seen with a tool in hand working on projects or lending a hand to anyone in
need.  In 2012, John embarked on a memorable trip to accompany his daughter Kerry
to China where she adopted her daughter, Alia.

John was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. John was known for
his hard work ethic, generosity, gratitude for life, and the will to withstand challenges
that came his way. John was a lover of animals- especially dogs. He has fond memories
of his former dog Brody at Niles Beach and leaves his current dog Bailey who will miss
him dearly.

John moved to North Reading Massachusetts in 2022 to be closer to his family after
battling numerous illnesses including amyloidosis of the kidney. John was a dialysis
patient for almost 4 years and approached each day without a complaint and a positive
attitude.

John was the beloved husband of Patricia M. (Moysey) Buckley. The devoted father of
John Michael Buckley and his wife Grace of North Reading, Kerry A. Assarian, and her
husband Richard of Reading and the late John Francis Buckley.  Loving grandfather of
Nicole and Drew Buckley; Ryan, Derek, and Alia Assarian. He was the brother of the
late Mary Reid.
