Obituary

George John Meslener, age 92, of Acton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2022. He spent the last year of his life living with his daughter, Karen (Meslener) Buscemi, her husband Paul, and their three children, Anna, Laura, and Jennifer, in North Reading, MA. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Rose Ann Meslener, brother Edward George Meslener, and his parents, Ignatz (John) Meslener and Mary (Steinmacher) Meslener.

George grew up in New York City during The Great Depression and was always grateful for everything he had and never wishful for what he didn't. He served in the U.S. Army and received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He proudly retired from GTE Laboratories in Waltham, MA in 1992 after a career in electrical engineering, securing several patents for his work in fiber optics. He loved living in Acton and his 50+ years there were full of hobbies including gardening, golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling, painting, reading, traveling, volunteering, stamp collecting, coin collecting, spending time with his family, and writing his memoirs.

One of the things George will most be remembered for was his knowledge of history and his never-ending enthusiasm to discuss it. His love for family was evident in all that he would say and do and he was especially proud of his title "grandpa." The close friends that he had, he cherished dearly, and the ones that moved on, he never forgot. There were always loads of stories to be told around the dinner table which brought much laughter and joy. If he could live his life over again, he would do a few things differently, but some not at all. He always expressed his satisfaction with life and was looking forward to the next chapter.

George left us with these last thoughts: "Never believe everything you read or hear, even from the experts. Always listen to what others have to say, but prove it for yourself. Always have faith in yourself and do what you believe in."

The family held a private funeral in Pennsylvania and requested any donations be sent to The American Cancer Society.
