Charles passed peacefully in the evening of April 5th. He is survived by Pat, his wife of 55 years, sons Bill and Steve and their wives Michelle and Eileen. And he was the very proud grandfather of John, Maureen, and Nick. He was predeceased by his son Chuck.

Charlie will be remembered by us for so many things. His commitment to family and loyalty to friends. His generosity. His wit. His stories from the old days. Integrity and steadiness. The sense that he was comfortable with who he was; a simple, beautifully humble man who had overcome early hardships and lived in a way which those of us who were witness to it, will try to emulate.

Charlie made the lives of those closest to him better. He will be missed for a very long time.

A Funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, April 13 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading, at 11:00am.  Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Charles' memory to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House c/o Lahey Philanthropy 41 Mall Rd.
