Obituary

Barbara Louise (Johnson) Bradley, 77, of Reading, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in Reading, Barbara was the daughter of the late Mary Marchetti Johnson and Sten Johnson. Some of her fondest memories were made spending summers vacationing at Lovell Lake in Sanbornville, New Hampshire. She also often reminisced about her time spent with friends at Camp Fleur De Lis. Those stories remained some of her favorite memories to share throughout her life.

Barbara graduated from Reading Memorial High School with the Class of 1967. Always one to be involved, she would proudly tell you she participated in just about every club, including baton. She went on to dedicate more than 40 years to a career as a radiology technologist, spending most of those years at Massachusetts General Hospital. It was there that she met the love of her life, Stephen Bradley. The two shared a wonderful, loving marriage and a devotion to one another that was evident to everyone who knew them. They truly loved being together and rarely wanted to be apart.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Barbara was a longtime and very active member of First Baptist Church in Reading, the church she had attended since childhood and where she and Stephen were married. Her faith was central to her life and guided the way she loved, cared for, and served others. First Baptist Church was much more than a church to Barbara; it was a community and an important part of her family's life. Their beloved Pastor David Reid held an especially important place in their hearts. He married Barbara and Stephen, as well as her daughter Kristin and son-in-law Dan, and was a constant source of love, guidance, and support through so many of life's joys and challenges. His impact on Barbara and her family will always be cherished.

Above all else, Barbara's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Stephen; her daughters, Kristin Charest and her husband, Dan, and Lauren Bradley and her husband, Danny Rangel, who were married in September. One of Barbara's wishes was to be there to witness Lauren's wedding, and she was blessed to share in that special day. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Bradley and Brielle Charest, who brought her immeasurable happiness. She loved nothing more than spending time with them, cheering them on at their sporting events, and being part of all the little moments that made her so proud. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Susanne Johnson, and many cherished cousins, especially Maryann and Cynthia, who held a very special place in her heart.

Barbara's generous heart extended well beyond her family. She was always looking for ways to help others, whether preparing a meal, offering a ride, or simply showing up when someone needed her. When her daughters were young, she volunteered her time driving elderly members of the community, a kindness she continued throughout her life. Even recently, she could be found helping those who could no longer drive by taking them grocery shopping or to appointments.

Barbara loved the Lord, her family, scrapbooking, and shopping! She regularly took scrapbooking trips with her dear friend Carmen, with whom she shared countless memories and a special friendship. Whether she was preserving family memories in her scrapbooks, finding another reason to visit the stores, attending church, or spending time with her grandchildren, Barbara found joy in the things and people she loved.

Barbara will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous spirit, love of family, and the countless ways she made others feel cared for. Her life was a testament to the importance of faith, kindness, and loving others. Though she will be deeply missed by all who loved her, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved parents, Mary and Sten, and resting in the arms of the Lord she loved so dearly.

Visiting hours will be held for Barbara at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Monday, November 9 from 4pm-7pm. A funeral service celebrating Barbrara’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church 45 Woburn St. Reading on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 11am. Burial will follow at Wood End Cemetery in Reading.
