Anthony J. Cortese, a resident of Stoneham for 24 years, formerly of Reading and Haverhill, died at the Bear Hill Nursing Center in Wakefield on June 16, 2015. He was 82 years of age.

Anthony was born in Haverhill on March 7, 1933, the son of the late John A. and Magalena (Defeo) Cortese. He graduated from Haverhill High School and Northeastern University with a degree in Business and Accounting. He worked as a CPA for several companies but primarily with Arthur Anderson and Bank of Boston where he retired from. He was a longtime member of the Reading Gun club.

Anthony was the devoted father of John A. Cortese and his wife Jie of Reading; David P. Cortese and his wife Andrea of Douglas; and Susan M. Kneeland and her husband Randall of Reading. Loving grandfather of Katherine, Allison, Alexander, Benjamin, Lily and Joe. Cherished brother of the late Michael and Catherine Cortese. He was the longtime companion of the late Teri Murphy.

A graveside service will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery 395 North Broadway, Haverhill on Friday, June 19 at 11:00AM. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening, June 18, at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) in Reading from 6-8PM.
