Obituary

Alan F. Barton, 84, a longtime resident of Reading, passed away at his home on Monday morning, June 17. He was the husband of 54 years of Mildred (Ryan) Barton.

Born and raised in Brighton, he was the son of the late William, and the late Katherine Barton. Alan enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. He served during the Korean War, earning his Honorable Discharge in 1953.

While holding down full time jobs, he also drove limousines part time for Boston area funeral homes. He enjoyed working with the many families he drove in his limousine.

Alan also worked as a Federal Police Officer with the Federal Protective Service. He was stationed in several federal buildings throughout Boston during his career. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Alan and Mildred enjoyed traveling to Bermuda and spending time on their houseboat on Lake Winnipesaukee.

In addition to his wife Mildred, Alan is also survived by one daughter, Catherine Barton Rossetti and her husband Kenneth J. Rossetti of Reading; three granddaughters, Olivia, Lilah, and Cora Rossetti; and he is also survived by Kenneth's sister, Gina Rossetti of Chicago. Alan was preceded in death by one brother, the late William Barton, and one sister, the late Alice Barton Thornhill.
