Reis
May 2, 1947 — Sep 28, 2026
Reading, MA
Ademar P. Reis, Age 79, of Reading, Massachusetts, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones closest to him. Born on May, 2, 1947, in Santos, São Paulo, Brasil, he was the son of Mario Reis and Nair Pascoal Reis.
Constantly curious and with an adventurous spirit, he traveled from Brasil to America with his soon-to-be wife, Iseti, with an open mind in search of new adventures. Together they traveled from California to the Northeast, landing in a small macrobiotic community in Chestnut Hill, where they explored eastern philosophies and natural foods.
In the early 70s, he founded Seasons Harvest, a wholesale food company that pioneered foods like hummus, veggie burgers, and fresh juices. This business later evolved into one of the first vegan bakeries in the country, Boston Cookies, located in Somerville, Massachusetts.
Having lived in Somerville and Medford for over 40 years, in 2017, Ademar and his wife moved to Reading to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
During his life, he left a lasting mark on his wife of 51 years, Iseti Reis. His son, Sunrey Reis, and his wife, Krista Elizabeth Barrows Reis. His grandchildren Lucas and Anya Reis. His siblings: Alcino, Adilson, Ana Rosa, Ana Regina, Arnaldo, Ana Christina, and Alcimar Reis. As well as numerous nieces and nephews, and countless other lives that he touched with his wisdom and thoughtfulness.
A Celebration of life will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (cor. of Woburn St.) Reading on Thursday, October 1 from 4:00-7:00 pm. Burial will be held on Friday, October 2 from the funeral home at 10:30 am, followed by a procession to Charles Lawn Cemetery, 182 Charles St. in Reading for graveside services at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Allan Kardec Spiritist Society of Massachusetts (AKSSMA), a spiritual learning center founded by Ademar’s mother, Nair Reis, in 1985. Checks can be dropped off at 2 Elm Street, Malden, MA 02148, or sent via Zelle to mailto:Treasury@akssma.com
